Galveston Jetty Lighthouse
Galveston, Texas
The Galveston Jetty light was constructed in 1916 and was lit in November, 1918. The foundation was concrete with the light being constructed of brick and steel. It was a buff color with black trim. Click on the link below to see a coast guard photo of the lighthouse as it was. It was located at the end of the south jetty, approximately 2 miles from the shore of Galveston Island. The original third order lens, located in the 84 foot tower, stood 91 feet above sea level. The lens was removed in 1972 and donated to the Galveston County Historical Museum in 1974.
Plans had been made to relocate the lighthouse and renovate it, in a park located on Galveston Island, when on May 2, 2000 a storm toppled the tower. To see a photo taken on the morning of May 3rd click here.
